Finally, the time had arrived. Abby had been asking about her Birthday since March. I know that kids do such things, but six months of asking can ware a person down. Last year we didn't have birthday parties for the kids. They both got to do something fun on the day of the birthday and were allowed to select one friend. There wasn't much to it. So, over the six month period, Abby really started wearing down on Mom and I decided they could have birthday parties every other year.
This year, Abby was going to have a Camping Party. We originally discussed going to Chatfield, but I wasn't certain that a group of 5 and 6 year old girls would be comfortable doing that (and I needed parents to be close by if we were going to have a sleepover). So, we borrowed the Amann's camper and had a very happy un-camping birthday celebration for Abby!
Poor Cocoa wasn't in the mood, but Abby was thankful that her BFF was there.
We had the camper parked down at the pool for the evening. We set up shop and friends began to show up.
Abby wanted s'mores cupcakes (in addition to actual s'mores).
I have learned through leading girl scouts, that it's in your best interest to keep a group of 5 and 6 year old girls as busy as possible!
So, we painted pet rocks.
Our cousins joined us at our party for some dinner and Birthday fun.
Then it was time to mellow out in the camper. The girls picked a movie and a spot...and another spot...and another spot...and another...
The girls are enthralled by The Lorax.
After the movie and some fingernail painting, we turned out the lights. Slowly the girls started to fall asleep. A couple of them lingered, whispering for a while, moving from bed to bed until they were comfortable. Eventually we all fell asleep!
Until an early rise. Four of these girls had a soccer game at 9 a.m., so we had to get up early, make and eat breakfast and pack up the camper! Phew, it was a whirlwind of fun and giggles and memories!
Abby's 6th Birthday came a few days later!
She woke up and crawled in bed with me and we had some Birthday snuggles!
Traditionally, we do the Race for the Cure with the family. However, this year, we needed a break, so we Slept-in for the Cure and joined family over at Ya-Yas for brunch and more Birthday fun.
YaYa made Abby a special birthday cake!
And another year and Birthday celebration has passed. I can hardly believe that our baby is six years old and taking on so much responsibility and independence at school and at home. It has been a pleasure to watch her grow into the beautiful, spunky, strong-willed little girl that she has become. I adore her!
I pray that she has another amazing year of growth!
Happy Birthday Abigail Irene!
