The Story of a Football Team

Once upon a time, there was a football team. A team for which there were many loyal fans whom adored the team so very much that they would spend their hard-earned money and free time to see and cheer on a weekly basis, shoulder-to-shoulder.

Even in the off-season, the fans were eager to see them scrimmage and to show display their talents. The fans read the articles, followed them rigorously on social media, and bled black & gold. The passion and adoration was bottomless; a sort of unconditional love that pulls on the heartstrings, through the good times and the bad.

That beloved team is the Buffaloes of the University of Colorado. And while we have been plagued by what appears to be another disappointing season, we still sing, chant, cheer and bleed CU, week after week, year after year.

And we will continue to do so...

This year we started our adventures of CU Football season ticket holding with the Spring game. We went up to the game and met with a rep to select our seats for the season.
We took all of the kids as we really want them to be a part of this experience.

Looking over the field, trying to gauge what sort of season we could look forward to.

Special family memories!

And special memories with friends.
We got a chance leave our name forever on the new construction. The champion center was still being built at the time of the Spring Game.
A photo from our seats, not quite at the top!

It's a long wait between the spring game and the season opener. As the season approached, the team held scrimmages and tours of the new facilities. We were getting pretty pumped! Especially after we had the opportunity to be on the field and take photos with Coach MacIntyre and the players.
The kids were a little uncertain about this one!
In a group shot with QB Sefo Liufau!
And then the day had arrived, our first home game. After a stunning loss in Hawaii, CU would face the Massachusetts Minutemen, a guaranteed win (although, we were certain they would beat the Rainbow Warriors as well--but we won't dwell on that).
Dana joined us and cooked us all breakfast!
A beautiful day looking out over campus.
Ella and Jude joined us for this game.
These two have become two peas in a pod!
We left the CU/UMass game victorious!

Next up, the Annual Rocky Mountain Showdown! A Colorado rivalry that we embrace every year! Last year the Hernandez's, a CSU Family, hosted the face-off. It was back on CU territory this year, and we were pumped to take back the Centennial Cup!

Friends and family came over to watch the game.
Debbie represents CU while Chris tries to coax her to the dark side!
There aren't many CSU fans among our group, but the few we know represent very well!
Dana, Cara, Dan, Brad, and Mark show that rivals can still be friends!

With a big group of friends comes a big group of kids! I forget how many kids were in my house that day, but I can promise you that the adults were outnumbered! They had a blast and we are happy that they get to be a part of the tradition!
The Buffs were again victorious. They took the Centennial Cup with a 27-24 victory!
The Buffs would go on to shut out Nicholls State at home, 48-0. Nate and I showed late to that game, but got the opportunity to check out the new rooftop facilities and to sit at club level! Another fond memory.

Next would be the Oregon Ducks at home. The Buffaloes were the underdog by a very minimal difference and we headed up to Boulder confident in our Buffs!

We set up tailgate early and enjoyed some homemade chili and other great food and beverage. We hit the bookstore for some fun and did a little site seeing on Boulder's lovely campus!

Elizabeth was the only kiddo that attended this game, as it was scheduled to be an 8 p.m. kick off. Little did we know that kick-off would be delayed due to thunderstorms.

She really had a lot of fun. Mid game she understandably fell asleep in my lap, but she was a champ until then!
Looks like one proud father enjoying some CU time with his daughter!

We left the CU/Oregon game, wet, cold, tired, and disappointed. CU was rolled by the Ducks 41-24.

CU would also lose their next game on the road to ASU.

But, we weren't going to let the two game losing streak bring us down. We were going to cheer our Buffs on to victory in the home game versus the Arizona Wildcats.

We had a large tailgate for this game. We had twenty-one seats to fill for the game and quickly surrounded ourselves with friends!

We were able to bring all six of the kids to this game!
The trek from tailgate to stadium is fun! The anticipation builds and we make our way towards the stadium. The kids are as pumped as the adults are as they approach Folsom Field! Ralphie runs and the kids are in awe!
Kim and Ernie bring up the rear on our trek towards the stadium!
Even Abby was pumped. She and I had fun hanging out together!

The Freemans joined us for the game!
August and Jude were champs at such a late hour! They had a great time cheering on the Buffs!
Abby and Ella had a great time playing together as well!
Elizabeth has learned so much about football. She really enjoys watching the games.
A group of friends cheering on the Buffs!

The Buffalos could not pull off the win, and as of today, they are on a three game losing streak and the opportunity of a 2015 bowl game has diminished, right along with our enthusiasm. While they are not out of the race for a bowl game, the team is broken, as are these fans! It's difficult to build up after a few heartbreaking losses.

But, as this story continues, I am confident that the excitement will build as we approach college football Saturday each week. We hope for another victory that will carry our spirits on to the next week. Regardless, we are Buffs fans and we bleed black and gold.

Abby Turns Six!

Finally, the time had arrived. Abby had been asking about her Birthday since March. I know that kids do such things, but six months of asking can ware a person down. Last year we didn't have birthday parties for the kids. They both got to do something fun on the day of the birthday and were allowed to select one friend. There wasn't much to it. So, over the six month period, Abby really started wearing down on Mom and I decided they could have birthday parties every other year.

This year, Abby was going to have a Camping Party. We originally discussed going to Chatfield, but I wasn't certain that a group of 5 and 6 year old girls would be comfortable doing that (and I needed parents to be close by if we were going to have a sleepover). So, we borrowed the Amann's camper and had a very happy un-camping birthday celebration for Abby!

Poor Cocoa wasn't in the mood, but Abby was thankful that her BFF was there.
We had the camper parked down at the pool for the evening. We set up shop and friends began to show up.

Abby wanted s'mores cupcakes (in addition to actual s'mores).

I have learned through leading girl scouts, that it's in your best interest to keep a group of 5 and 6 year old girls as busy as possible!
So, we painted pet rocks.

Our cousins joined us at our party for some dinner and Birthday fun.
Then it was time to mellow out in the camper. The girls picked a movie and a spot...and another spot...and another spot...and another...

The girls are enthralled by The Lorax.
After the movie and some fingernail painting, we turned out the lights. Slowly the girls started to fall asleep. A couple of them lingered, whispering for a while, moving from bed to bed until they were comfortable. Eventually we all fell asleep!

Until an early rise. Four of these girls had a soccer game at 9 a.m., so we had to get up early, make and eat breakfast and pack up the camper! Phew, it was a whirlwind of fun and giggles and memories!

Abby's 6th Birthday came a few days later!
She woke up and crawled in bed with me and we had some Birthday snuggles!
Traditionally, we do the Race for the Cure with the family. However, this year, we needed a break, so we Slept-in for the Cure and joined family over at Ya-Yas for brunch and more Birthday fun.

YaYa made Abby a special birthday cake!
And another year and Birthday celebration has passed. I can hardly believe that our baby is six years old and taking on so much responsibility and independence at school and at home. It has been a pleasure to watch her grow into the beautiful, spunky, strong-willed little girl that she has become. I adore her!
I pray that she has another amazing year of growth!

Happy Birthday Abigail Irene!
