Last year, due to drought conditions, most of Colorado's professional fireworks shows were cancelled. We had assumed the same would happen this year so we planned to repeat last year's BBQ at the Syers' house. We are reminded again of how special our independence is as we celebrate with great friends, food, beer, and fireworks.
The kids spent the majority of the evening on the trampoline playing a variety of different games!
| They even enjoyed themselves with the sprinkler under the trampoline. |
The guys partook in some manly Long Islands and cornhole.
Landon and Abigail spent some time playing cornhole between the Dad's games.
Wes and Cara also have a tight rope in their backyard. Riley is a little gymnast!
After a wonderful dinner, Cara brought out the firecracker Popsicles. Jane also made a killer M & M brownie! YUM.
Brady is a ladies' man, with Elizabeth, Riley, Rosline, and Abigail.
Shae, Elizabeth, Riley, Rosline, Abigail, and Payton.
And then we brought out some leftover fireworks that we had from a few years ago. I was slightly skeptical, but it turned out to be a lot of fun for the kids. We had tanks, smoke bombs, Climbing Pandas and slightly dysfunctional Dancing Butterflies. We also had some bottle rockets that we had to put an end too after they began shooting into the neighbor's trees.
Because the fireworks were old, some of them were duds. This flaming stick is supposed to be a sparkler!
Double fisted fireworks.
Some of the professional shows were cancelled, but some were still on and we began to slightly regret our decision to miss them this year. So, we packed up the cars and tried to find higher ground in order to see a show or two in the skyline. We went up to the South Suburban golf course parking lot, but were shortly kicked out after the kids (including the husbands) were caught chasing a raccoon on the greens.
We had a great time regardless and we can plan on next year's fireworks shows.
Thanks to the Syers' for letting our kids terrorize their house for the evening.
