This spring and summer, the girls have the opportunity to participate in Peabody's Garden Club. At our first meeting last week, the girls were taught how to read seed packets and to recognize how far apart to plant seeds, how long it takes them to sprout, and how much sunlight they each need. They also taught the kids about the different types of edible seeds and let them each try seeds from sesame to pomegranate to sunflower seeds.
They the kids got to head out to the garden to plant some flowers in the beds.
Then we got to weed!!! They learned how to pull up the roots. They will be busy pulling weeds for me this summer now that they know how :)
It wouldn't be right if Elizabeth hadn't stopped to strike a pose!
We look forward to more gardening this summer. In the fall we will harvest the plants and sell them to the community!
