Est. 1964: Kings Point Pool Still Going Strong!

Over this summer, our beloved neighborhood pool turned 50 years old!

In 1964 the Kings Point subdivision, including our home and Kings Point Pool was built.
This was the oldest picture that I could find.
Denver was quickly growing into Arapahoe County.
It wasn't until 1999 that the City of Centennial was established.

Over the past 50 years, many things about Metro Denver have changed, but the sense of community in our neighborhood has remained the same! Before and after the building of our home, other subdivisions began to pop up all around and the houses were filled with genuine, hard-working, blue collar families. In recent years, the neighborhood has seen a turn over. "Empty nesters" are retiring and selling their homes off to new families, including ours and many of the Kings Point Pool members! This turn over has created a new generation of KPP members and this year, we celebrate fifty years of community. The pool has provided a great place for people to gather, create memories and build ever-lasting friendships!

In order to truly celebrate this milestone, we put together the:

Kings Point Pool Hog Roast & 50th Anniversary Celebration.

The phrase, "It takes a village..." has rang true to me in the past few months. We are truly blessed to be surrounded by a community that cares about us as much as we care about them. We are all willing to chip in with one another's children and share a snack and cold beverage with a good friend! And everybody cares as equally about the pool! Sure, we all pay our dues at the beginning of the swim season, but it's the blood, sweat, and tears that truly speak the loudest!

I cannot count the amount of hours that went into the planning and preparations for this party! Members donated beautiful pies and side dishes, hauled the smoker to and from Lafayette, and gave their time and energy to make it a beautiful and memorable evening!

And you can't have a hog roast without a hog!
Chris Hornsby would not half-ass this thing! We found and reserved a smoker from Arapahoe Hog Roasters. Leanard Higdon and Chris went and picked up the hog and smoker the day before the roast. (A special thanks to Tim Vogelzang for hauling it back!)

Chris and his son William even set up camp to guard the pig while it cooked overnight! If that's not dedication, I don't know what is!

Heidi had planned a lovely 5K for 50 Years for the morning of the celebration! T-shirts were included in the race fee: "Keep Calm and Swim On".

Heidi mapped out a route and each participant finished strong!

After the race, the decorating began! Dara and I spent the entire morning decorating the clubhouse!

Madelyn and Heidi Somer provided these lovely flowers to adorn our picnic tables!
It really turned out lovely!

It's a good thing it started raining because Dara and I needed to pull ourselves (and our food) together for party time!

Rain or shine, the hog roasting had to continue!

Chris, Rob,and Roger can consider themselves pros at this point!

Chris should be proud!
He pulled it off!

In addition to the amazing spread of donated side dishes, many of our guests brought deserts to share!

Some of our guests went home with a donated bottle of wine (thank you to the Olssons), a 5K t-shirt (thank you to the Somers) or a basket of breads and kitchen gadgets (thank you Great Harvest who also donated the rolls for the spread)!

Diana Collins worked hard on these beautiful mason jars. One for each guest!
"Happy Trails! Thanks for Coming!"

After everybody was stuffed to the brim, we celebrated together!

The photo booth was a lot of fun!

While we all adore our children, it was so nice to sit around the fire, without distraction, and get to know each other better! Many of the pool members have known each other for years and years! Many other members are new/newer this year. Regardless, everybody mingled and contributed to the sense of community that we all know that love as pool and community members.

Kings Point Pool has served us all well over the years! I look forward to celebrating other milestones in the future as the neighborhood continues to grow with both youth and wisdom!

Change comes with the passing of time and together we will embrace that change in order to thrive and continue the tradition for generations to come!
